Teacher of the Week: Jessica Wright
In this weeks Teacher of the Week segment we highlight middle school french teacher Jessica Wright from the Susquehanna School District.
Teacher of the Week is presented by Springbrook.
Jessica Wright has been teaching french classes for 20 years at Richard T. Stank Middle School in Susquehanna Valley Central School District, and said she's always had a passion for language arts since she was young.
That passion stems from her time taking french in middle school and continuing that through her college studies on her way to becoming a teacher.
Wright said, "I had a lot of real world experience and she went to she took us to France, we did our first study abroad in high school. So that was really awesome."
She says knowing what it's like to start learning a second language, she tries to make things as easy as possible for her first year students.
Wright said, "Because it's a brand new language for most of them I try to keep it very low stress and then engage as much as possible. So we're always doing listening, reading and writing prompts, and then the speaking naturally comes."
Along with ensuring the students pick up on the language, what she finds most rewarding is helping them become better people.
"It means when kids come in, not only are they gaining knowledge of my subject, but they're actually being a really good human and a human to look like a good person to one another, and that I always try to keep it as my baseline. And then everything that we learn within my content is such," said Wright.
