Whitney Point Field Hockey Outlasts Rondout Valley 2-1 to Win Fourth-Straight State Championship
Sadee Short scored the game winner with about six minutes left to go in the game off of a pass from fellow junior Geneveive Huston to secure Whitney Point's fourth-straight field hockey championship, and ninth in the last ten years.
Whitney Point took the lead in the third off of a corner scored by Huston, but Rondout Valley quickly responded the other way with a goal of their own from Audrey Dennin. The tie eventually was broken by Short, giving the Eagles the 2-1 victory.
"It was difficult today. Rondout Valley came in to play us," said head coach Nicole Huston. "They're an excellent team and one of the toughest competitions that we've seen in the state so far."
"It was intense and exciting. Like coming in like we've been blowing through [on the way to the] championship," added Geneveive Huston. "And this was actually a game like we played and we played top. It was a good team to compete against. This is exciting for us. It's a big win,"
"It's really great coming together as a team and winning this championship. It was really like emotional to finally win knowing that we lost a few good players [form last year]," said Short. "We all came together and really worked well together."
