100 Years Ago is brought to you by Broome Recycles.

100 years ago today, at 1:45 this afternoon, factory whistles blew throughout the city, to announce the arrival of the Shenandoah – the giant Navy dirigible. Within minutes the giant blimp appeared over the Court Street bridge and slowly passed over the central part of this city as thousands of people watched. One of the crew members is a Binghamton boy, and he dropped letters to his friends as it went over. The dirigible then went on to Endicott before turning south.

The Binghamton Practical Bible training school announced plans to build a new dormitory to accommodate 100 more students.

A Baldwin Street woman was arrested last night for disturbing the peace after her neighbor charged her with using obscene language.

Finally, an Endicott man escaped from a Broome County Jail road gang today. He was serving a six-month sentence for stealing chickens.

And that was the news 100 years ago.
