$5 Million in Funding to Support Binghamton Homeowner House Repairs
City of Binghamton Mayor Jared Kraham joins with the First Ward Action Council and Home Headquarters to announce a new state pilot program that provides funding to help moderate to low-income families with home repairs.
The targeted home improvement program awards 5 million dollars in funding to local non-profits focused on serving homeowners within the community.
Homeowners who apply will be able to complete critical home repair projects.
Mayor Kraham said, "This grant will go directly to families that need to improve their housing stock. It will change the face of many neighborhoods across the city of Binghamton and represents a significant investment by the state of New York and HCR(Homes and Community Renewal) into the city of Binghamton's housing stock."
Home Headquarters and the First Ward Action Council are the two non-profits responsible for choosing applicants to give the money to.
The program aims to help close to 135 homeowners and eligible homeowners can receive up to $40,000 per household to complete a variety of home repairs.
You can apply by contacting home headquarters or the first ward action council.
The program will run for two years or until the full amount of grant money has been used.
To be an eligible applicant, you must have a 13904 or 13905 zip code.
The home being repaired must be the applicant's primary residence and the total household income cannot exceed 80% of the area median income.
Residential properties with up to four units are eligible as long as one is occupied by the owner as their primary residence.
