We all love our holiday barbeques and picnics, but it's also a time of remembrance, as veterans at American Legion Post 1645 remember those who served for our freedom.

New York is currently home to over 800,000 veterans, the fifth-largest veteran population in the country.

The post honors veterans from the Binghamton area by hanging photos and acknowledging achievements throughout their venue.

U.S. Air Force veteran and chaplain for American Legion Post 1645 Jon Yeager says he encourages everyone to look into and honor the history of our country this holiday.

"As a veteran, you have a tendency to think a little bit more about some of the sacrifices that were made by service members throughout the history of our great nation," Yeager said. "So many have sacrificed so much, not only the ultimate sacrifice, but also sacrifice range and time away from family to try to save our country or keep it, keep it free and keep it a special place."
