This weekend, two Section IV teams were crowned as State Champs while three others' seasons ended in the Final Four.


Whitney Point: To recap the Eagles' run, they went 16-0 in the regular season and sectionals before beating Little Falls 6-0 then Hoosick Falls on Saturday 4-0 to advance to the State Chip where they won 2-0. Payton Martin and Cassidy Pado scored the lone goals in the win over Carle while Sadee Short put in five over the previous two contests. In total, six different Eagles scored in the three-state tournament wins.

Vestal: The Golden Bears also won the State Title for Class B. Vestal downed Camden, Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake and Iroquois by a combined score of 11-2. The Golden Bears finish the year at 18-2 with Kendall Brady leading the way with 18 goals. This is the team's second-straight state title and second overall as well.

Windsor:  Our final field hockey team, Windsor dropped to Mamaroneck in overtime 3-2 on Saturday in the Class A Semifinal, but the Knights finish up the year at 15-4 and pick up a Section IV Title in the process.


Chenango Forks: In Class B, Chenango Forks fell to East Aurora 2-0, who were the eventual champions and finished with an undefeated record.

Seton: For Class C, Seton fell to Elba/Byron-Bergen in penalty kicks after being tied at one goal apiece through regulation and overtime.


Candor: The Coyotes swept Keio Academy of N.Y. 3-0 to win the Region. Candor was the one seed in the Section IV Class D Tournament and will play Chautauqua Lake of Section VI on Saturday at 7:15 pm in the State Semifinal held by Cool Insuring Arena. If the Coyotes win, they would advance to the State Championship and play the winner of Lake George vs. Tuxedo. Candor has won three NYS Titles before, most recently in 2019.

Owego: The River Hawks fell in the Class A Regional Final, 3-1 to Byram Hills of Section I, three sets to one. Owego was the one seed in the Sectional Tournament and won the STAC Championship.

Vestal: The Golden Bears were bounced by Cornwall Central of Section IX in the Class AA Regional Final. The Golden Bears were the three seed going into the Section IV Tournament and upset Horseheads and Union-Endicott in the tournament.


Vestal, Maine-Endwell, Waverly and Tioga win their respective Section IV Championships and advance to the State Tournament beginning this Friday.
