The Bearcats drop 45 in the first half en route to a 72-59 win over Division II Bloomsburg to start the regular season.

The Bearcats dropped 28 points in the first quarter, shooting over 50 percent for the frame and taking a 13-point lead.

In the second quarter, both offenses cooled off, but the Bearcats still took the frame 17-10 to go into the break with a 45-25 lead.

Bloomsburg outscored BU over the second half, but never came within 10 points as BU closed out the win with a 13-point lead.

Owego grad Genevieve Coleman led the way with 18 points for the Bearcats while Jadyn Weltz put up 16. Weltz also brought in seven boards and dished six assists.

"That's my role, just kind of getting the ball to the people that are open," Weltz said. "When [Genevieve Coleman] runs the floor, I'm going to reward so throwing those passes whenever they're there. But just trying to do the little things for my team and sticking to my role when I can."

Twelve players touched the court for the home side.

"The second unit came in and did their job," head coach Bethann Shapiro Or said. "They did what we asked them to do, and I thought they did a really nice, nice job of putting some pressure out there and really getting their team sped up and getting some turnovers."

BU is back in action this Thursday at home against Siena.
