The Mom's House located in Johnson City honored their graduates from the program on Thursday night.

The program itself is to help single moms complete their schooling while providing their children with childcare in attempts to make their families financially independent.

Kristine Cunningham, the Executive Director of the organization says how the 6 that graduated will not only make an impact for their families, but for the area as well.

"They support local businesses, and nonprofits like ours," said Cunningham. "They have access such as retirement savings, and insurance, so it really is a win-win for the community".

One of the graduates, Barbara Pearson who graduated from SUNY Broome in the nursing program says how Mom's House was a large stepping stone to her accomplishing her degree.

"They provided safe and comfortable childcare, it is hard to find childcare and it is free," said Pearson. "They help single moms go to school and provide us with a lot of resources and it made my education journey a lot easier".

Majors from different fields were recognized. From nursing, to business, to phlebotomy, and even recognizing the preschool graduates. Cunningham knows that this select group of graduates were able to overcome the leaps and bounds to achieve what they pursue.

"They have taken a hard road, a hard path, because getting an education while you are a single parent is very difficult," said Cunningham. "They knew they needed to do it for their families and one word for all of our graduates, I would say hardworking."
