Binghamton Man Gets Prison Time for ATM Robbery
A Binghamton man will spend six years in prison after pleading guilty to Attempted Robbery in the second degree.
According to the Broome County District Attorney's Office, 30-year-old Joel G. Valdes-Pica was sentenced to six years in New York State Prison.
The office notes, Valdes-Pica admitted that on December 28, 2021 he and another male assaulted a Family Dollar employee, who was making a deposit at the M&T Bank ATM on Exchange Street in Binghamton. During this incident, Valdes-Pica and the other man stole over $1000.
Valdes-Pica has a prior felony conviction for Criminal Possession of a Weapon Second Degree from 2014.
He will also serve 5 years post-release supervision.
“Repeat offenders who continue to jeopardize the safety of law-abiding citizens, will be held accountable,” said Michael A. Korchak, Broome County District Attorney.
