A former assistant to former Broome County District Attorney Steven Cornwell has been sentenced for his role in a parking scheme.

James Worhach was sentenced Thursday to 2 to 4 years in prison.

Worhach has the ability to serve only 90 days behinds bars and the rest of the time on probation. This is dependent on him completing a 3-month substance abuse treatment program.

In addition to the jail time, Worhach was ordered to pay $5,727.75 in restitution to Broome County plus a fine of $1,000.

In January, Worhach pleaded guilty to Grand Larceny in the 4th degree after admitting he stole more than $1,000 from 2016-2019 from the Broome County government.

Worhach was the executive assistant and media relations representative for then-Broome County DA Stephen Cornwell, Jr. at the time and used the money to pay for unauthorized long-term parking for Cornwell and himself until the end of Cornwell's term in 2019.

In December 2022, Worhach pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of Stolen Property after admitting he stole a criminal case file in November 2020 that belonged to the district attorney's office.
