An Owego man has been charged with murder.

According to the Tioga County Sheriff's Office, James Kvassay was arrested January 4th and charged with Murder in the 2nd degree after deputies responded to 2230 Day Hollow Road in Owego for a welfare check.

When deputies arrived, they found the homeowner Phyllis L. Kvassay deceased and her son, James Kvassay in the home as well.

Kvassay was arraigned and taken to the Tioga County Jail without bail.

Kvassay was arrested days earlier and charged with Criminal Contempt in the 1st degree. That came after the sheriff's office says Kvassay violated an Order of Protection.

This investigation is ongoing.
