The Binghamton University athletics department will be welcoming a new Director of Athletics in the new year.

Eugene Marshall Jr. was announced as the next Director of Athletics for Binghamton University effective January 5, 2023.

Marshall currently serves as the Director of Athletics at Hampton University in Virginia and has served there since 2014. There, Marshall manned both intercollegiate athletics as well as intermurals. The new director played Division I basketball at Northeastern University and here at Binghamton, Marshall will be in charge of all 21 intercollegiate athletic programs.

Here's what Marshall had to say:

"Binghamton University has a strong intercollegiate athletics staff and overall program," said Marshall. "I'm thrilled to be joining the campus as the next AD, and look forward to becoming part of the Binghamton area community."

Binghamton University president Harvey Stenger added this:

"The level of competition Binghamton's student-athletes bring to the America East Conference and the academic accolades they achieve are points of pride for Binghamton University," said Stenger. "Gene brings with him a wealth of experience that can help us continue the excellence we have been seeing on the courts and playing fields, in the pool and in the classroom."

The Bearcats are members of the America East conference for a majority of their sports. Marshall Jr. also served as the AD at Iona. Marshall Jr. is a New Jersey native. Dennis Kalina currently serves in the role as interim AD. Patrick Elliot served in the position since 2011 prior to Kalina.
