The Vestal field hockey team returned home to Dick Hoover Stadium after winning its first-ever State Title on Sunday. Fox 40 had the opportunity to be there as the Golden Bears came home to a warm welcome.

What's the reception sound like to winning a state title? A lotta fans and some sirens. How's it feel?

"It feels really good, we've worked really hard for many years for this. I know Grace and I have both worked really hard for this. We deserved this."

"It's great. I mean, we worked our whole life, it really paid off. We’re super excited."

And to come home to this welcome?

"I feel supported by everybody, I'm incredibly grateful for everyone who supported us throughout the whole thing, especially the booster club, paying for all our meals and supporting us at Long Island, it was amazing."

Especially considering the Bears had been in the chip several times before, but this time being the first time getting over the hill.

"It's such a surreal moment. It's just paid off and how hard we work this whole season we work for this. It still doesn't feel real. I don't even know how I feel."

What makes it sweeter is beating a familiar foe in Garden City.

"A dream come true. We were all crying and hugging each other. This is history for us and we've been working for many years. I've seen Garden City twice now and it was definitely just a dream come true to finally win for the school."

A win that means more than just a plaque and some medals.

"This is a huge win for Vestal field hockey, for all the alumni, for all the female athletes that have played in the program since the conception of the program, and this is a victory for everyone today."

The Bears saw a lot of adversity with three one-goal games in the four games since starting sectionals, this time beating Garden City 2-1 thanks to goals from Kendall Brady and Adrienne Mayes along with a near clean sheet from Riley Storer.
