Walkers can put on their walking shoes for a good cause next weekend.

The 4th annual Matthews Walk-A-Thon will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 1st at the Vestal Rail Trail, starting at the Coal House on Stage Road.

This event is rain or shine.

Matthews Auto will donate $10 per mile for every mile walked by registered participants up to $100,000 plus will match cash donations up to $25,000 for a maximum donation of $150,000.

In the first three years, Matthews Auto has donated over $125,000 to local charities.

Charities that will benefit from this event include GiGi's Playhouse, Mom's House, A Room to Heal, Lourdes Camp Hope for Kids, Handicapped Children's Association, Chenango County Child Advocacy Center, Upstate Golisano Children's Hospital in Syracuse, University of Rochester-Golisano Children's Hospital, Things of My Very Own, and St. Joseph's Center in Scranton.

Walkers can walk in person or can register online and walk virtually. Schenectady, Syracuse, Scranton and Norwich participants will walk virtually from home.
