The Newark Valley Fire Station held a spaghetti benefit dinner Sunday to support a young community member that been in the hospital for 9 months after his birth.

Shannon Thompson and Bryan Van Vorce were able to take their baby Wyatt home after he had 5 operations. Wyatt was born with a defect called Spina Bifida, that stops a developing baby's spinal cord from developing properly.

Many people came out to the Newark Valley fire station to help raise money for the family and Wyatt's need for continual care.

"We live in an area where there is not a lot of pediatric care, so he has to travel to rochester and that's a lot on the family," said Jennifer Thompson, Wyatt's Grandmother .

Wyatt's family said they are so grateful for the community support.
