M-E's Palmer joins JC's Korutz at Boston College
Maine-Endwell Senior and First Team All-State football star Mike Palmer made his college choice official Tuesday signing a National Letter of Intent to play football at Boston College. Palmer is a three time state champion in football and a state champion in track.
Last week, Johnson City's Adam Korutz signed to play at Boston College with Palmer in attendance and today, Korutz returned the favor. While rivals on the field in high school, they've been close off the field for years and are looking forward to playing together.
While known for his acrobatic and clutch catches as a wide receiver in high school, Palmer, also known to have big interceptions on defense, will transition to defensive back and maybe see some time on special teams. He's a bit undersized for DB in the ACC but is expecting to bulk up during summer workouts.
While the spotlight will be on him as a member of a power five conference, he believes his time at M-E and the attention paid to the football program over the last few years has prepared him for the national spotlight.
"I don't want to say I've been in that spotlight before because I haven't been in a primetime 3:00 ESPN football game, but being on ESPN in our 30 for 30, playing all the games we've played on tv, playing in all big games like the state championships, and even the state championships in track, just playing in multiple sports in big events, that definitely helps with the confidence and just knowing what you have to do not to get ahead of yourself in big situations like that," he said.
Palmer is currently undecided on a major but is leaning towards business administration or sports management.
