Could Broome County Undersheriff Fred Akshar Fill Vacant State Senate seat?
Could Broome County Undersheriff Fred Akshar be the GOP choice to run for the vacant 52nd District State Senate seat?
Sheriff David Harder says Akshar told him Wednesday morning that he has spoken to the selection committee about a run. The Press and Sun Bulletin was first to report this afternoon that a pair of internet domains - aksharforsenate.com and fredakshar.com - have been registered to Broome County GOP Chairman Bijoy Datta.
Datta was campaign manager for Chemung County Sheriff Christopher Moss when he was running for lieutenant governor last year. Messages to Akshar and Datta have not been returned.
Broome County Sheriff David Harder said, "That's why I went ahead and put him as an undersheriff. He's young, he's aggressive, he moves on things. When you put a project in front of him he's right on top of it and he makes sure it get accomplished. And that's what you're have if he gets elected as the senator of this district."
