Devils Talk About Win Streak

Posted: Updated:

Tonight the Binghamton Devils will be looking to extend their franchise record win streak and the AHL's longest active win streak to 8 games over the Cleveland Monsters. It's been an impressive run for the Devils during a time where the roster has been in flux. They have started 3 goalies during the 7 games and their captain and points leader Ben Street was called up to New Jersey. Right before the stretch began the organization traded Taylor Hall which brought Nick Merkley and Nate Schnarr to Binghamton. head Coach Mark Dennehy says there's ebbs and flows to a hockey season but this recent stretch of success has been earned.

"You got to remember these guys are here for a reason," says Dennehy. "A lot of these guys are younger, they're learning and you like to see that type of progress. I think we're more detail oriented in our own zone. I think because of that we're spending less time in our zone. Another fruit of our labor is we're spending more time in the offensive zone. It's all connected but I think our play in the defensive zone is really what spurred it on."

Dennehy praised the play of one of the constants on the team, forward Joey Anderson. With Street in Jersey, the 21-year-old was named to the AHL All-Star Game game, is tied for the team in lead in points with 28, and has notched a goal and 4 assists in their last two contests.

"I think there's a new little bit of swagger in the group," says Anderson. "I know guys are playing with confidence right now, and I think that's helped. We're getting some bounces that weren't necessarily going our way early, we're not giving up on games and been able to close teams out better then we have in the past. Couple of those different things have come together and created a bunch of wins."

Tonight's game has a little extra juice. After a brutal start to the season a win tonight puts the Devils ahead of the Monsters and out of last place in the North Division. Be sure to tune into Binghamton taking on Cleveland tonight at 7 on My8 WBPN.
