Special Hockey Festival Comes To Broome County For A Third Year

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -

Around 700 people are planning to come to Broome County for the Broome Includes Special Hockey Festival happening on January 18 and 19.

About 30 games will be based in the Floyd L. Maines Arena, the SUNY Broome Hockey Rink, and the Ice House in Chenango. The 17 participating teams are coming from as far away as Western and Eastern Ontario, Ohio, and North Carolina just to play special hockey.

Jen O'Brien, Executive Director of American Special Hockey Association, says hockey is more than just a game to the players and helps them achieve their goals.

"They start to do things that are totally unexpected and some of the things they learn on the ice benefit them in the classroom, at home, and out there in the community where they're doing more and they're braver," said O'Brien.

Admission to attend the games is free.

A schedule can be found on the Ice House Hawks Facebook page.
