Plastic Bags Will No Longer Be Available at Wegmans Starting January 27th

Posted: Updated:

The statewide "Plastic Bag Ban" is set to go into effect on March 1st, however, one grocery store chain is putting the ban into effect over a month earlier.

Wegmans has decided to cut the use of plastic grocery bags effective January 27th, in order to give customers a jump start at using reusable shopping bags.

"We're trying to get the community on board. Giving them that time period to try and adapt to the changeover. Like I said, we're trying to be a leader in the industry, and we just want to make the change over as smooth as possible for our customers." Says Joe Ferraro, Front End Manager, Wegmans, Johnson City.

If you would not like to use or purchase the reusable bags, Wegmans will be offering paper bags for purchase at five-cents a piece.
