United Way of Broome County Celebrates Those That Give Back for the Holidays

JOHNSON CITY, N.Y. -

The holiday season is about giving back, and the United Way of Broome County is celebrating by recognizing those that give back all year long.

Over 100 volunteers, CEO's, Local business owners, and non-profit organizations met at the Traditions at the Glen to celebrate the holidays.

Stories were shared about the generosity of the community, including one young boy who received the Community Spirit Award for having his friends donate clothes instead of giving him birthday presents.

The Executive Director of the United Way of Broome County says the event is for those humble stories that don't get recognized.

Lori Welch, the Executive Director, said "We live in a community of very humble individuals... And no one is really looking for recognition but we think it's important as an organization to remember the generosity and to recognize those individuals that so selflessly give up their time and give up their financial support to help programs continue to happen in our community..."

The event also had a raffle for donated prizes that were worth $8,000 in total.
