1 Killed in Farming Accident in Cortland County

FREETOWN, N.Y. -

Cortland County Sheriff's Office said that person has died as a result of injuries sustained in a farming accident in the town of Freetown. 

Deputies along with Marathon Fire Department and Ambulance Service were called to McGraw Marathon Road around 5:25 p.m. Thursday evening. 

According to police investigations, the owner of the farm had been moving equipment by using a tractor that was pulling a wagon. When attempting to pull the wagon up a slight grade, the tractor overturned, pinning the operator under it.

Family members working on the farm were able to free the operator from under the tractor by using a jack. 

The operator was treated at the scene for severe internal injuries then transported to Wilson Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. 

The address and name of the victim are not being released at this time pending notification of family members.
