Local Retirement Home Hosts Annual Free Haunted House

Posted: Updated:
JOHNSON CITY, N.Y. -

To celebrate the spooky season, a local senior living community is holding its 14th annual free haunted house this week, featuring frights, scares, refreshments and more this Halloween.

United Methodist Homes is a nonprofit continuing care retirement community for senior citizens. What started out as a haunted house just to get the residents into the spirit, has since brought together the staff's and residents' families and even local community members for a great time.

Faye Clark, lifestyle coordinator for the retirement community, said they put together this event to give the residents and staff the opportunity to celebrate the holiday with their families.

"Residents, you can't scare too often, they've been through it all so they think it's a fantastic event," Clark said. "We love this event because it brings the community, residents, family [and] staff altogether and gives us the opportunity to have fun."

Scaredy-cats and thrill-seekers alike are invited to scream and laugh at this event, with the haunted house balanced out with a fun photo booth, refreshments and snacks for all ages.

The haunted tour will take place at the United Methodist Homes Hilltop Campus, 286 Deyo Hill Rd., Johnson City, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday.
