Binghamton University Celebrates Park(ing) Day with Pop-up 'Parks'

Posted: Updated:

Today, for the second year in a row, Binghamton University's Transportation and Parking Services participated in the global annual event of Park(ing) Day, an event that calls for empty, metered parking spaces to be transformed into temporary parks for the community to enjoy.

Student organizations and campus clubs collaborated to utilize Lot Q2, located in front of the Mohawk Hall of the College-in-the-Woods living community, to bring a variety of activities and crafts for attendees to try out.

At the event, BU's Spirit Team and their beloved mascot, Baxter the Bearcat, brought music and giveaways, and Residential Life hosted 'Pet-a-Pooch' for students to love on therapy dogs. Other activities included trivia games and prizes, tie-dye arts and crafts, corn hole, a miniature basketball hoop, chalk drawings and more.

The event took place from noon until 3 p.m. to show the community that these spaces can be used for more than just your car.
