Binghamton Man Charged with Multiple Felonies, Including Attempted Murder

33-year-old Binghamton man Tyron M. Hooks-Harris is being charged with multiple felonies and attempted murder after State Police stopped his vehicle on Saturday.

Troopers who were told to be on alert for a 2014 Kia Optima after reports of the driver possibly being suicidal.

After spotting the vehicle State Police turned on their emergency lights and siren and Hooks-Harris took off and a pursuit followed.

State Police say that Hooks-Harris intentionally struck a 2017 GMC SUV causing the two vehicles to spin out.

Police say Hooks-Harris then exited his car, opening the door of the 2017 GMC SUV that he had struck and "slashing" the passenger with a knife.

Troopers approached the car and saw the suspect with a knife, Hooks-Harris complied with verbal commands but was taken into custody at gunpoint.

Tyron M. Hooks-Harris is being charged as follows:

  • Attempted Murder 2nd degree, a class “A” felony
  • Assault 2nd degree, a class “D” felony
  • Reckless Endangerment 1st degree, a class “D” felony
  • Criminal Mischief 2nd degree, a class “D” felony
  • Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd degree, a class “D” felony
  • Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 4th degree, a class “E” felony
  • Fleeing a Police Officer 3rd degree, a class “A” misdemeanor
  • DWAI Drugs, an unclassified misdemeanor
  • Reckless Driving, an unclassified misdemeanor
