Citizen Action Protests Texas v. US Lawsuit

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -

Members of Citizen Action gathered on the steps of the Federal Court House to protest the Texas v. United States lawsuit. The original lawsuit, which happened in December 2018 is now in a federal court fighting to repeal the Affordable Care Act.

New York Attorney General Letitia James joins over 20 others as the legal defense of the ACA at the federal level. Millions of people in New York would be affected if the ACA is repealed, including loss of private or Medicaid coverage for 1.2 million people, loss of protections for 8.3 million people with pre-existing conditions, increased prescription costs for 348,566 senior citizens with Medicare, and loss of free preventative care for 8.6 million New Yorkers.

Other consequences include allowing insurers to charge women more than men for the same coverage and the elimination of coverage to people up to the age of 26 on their parents' insurance plans.

Many of the people present on Tuesday have pre-existing conditions that would no longer be covered by ACA protections.
