Dozens Run Tacky Tie 5K for Father's Day

VESTAL, N.Y. -

It was a rainy morning on Sunday as dozens of runners of all ages made their way to the Vestal Coal House to take part in a fun themed father's day 5K run.

The theme for the father's day run was Tacky Ties, one runner laughed and said " Well for the mother's day run we all wore tutu's but we didn't think that would really fit today's event so we came together to think of something that dads normally wear, and that's when it came to us, ties".

All of the money raised from today's 5k will be going right back to the Broome community through United Way of Broome County.

Stephan Mazikewice, one of the runners on Sunday said, "Getting to choose what local charities you can give to through United Way, it's a great way to get money out there and a fun way to get money to United Way so they can get it to the right people".

Mazikewice is a frequent runner at the Coal House races and says today was the best he's ever run, breaking his personal record by 8 seconds.

He says that he credits the rainy weather for helping with the new PR, saying "It's my kind of weather to run in".
