Deposit, N.Y. - The Gatorade company announced earlier today that Makenzie Stiles of Deposit High School has been named 2018-19 Gatorade New York Softball Player of the Year. Stiles becomes the first Gatorade New York Softball Player of the Year chosen from Deposit High School.
The 5-foot-6 senior right-handed pitcher has rewrote Deposit's record book, highlighted by last season when she set the New York perfect game record. Now, she can add this prestigious honor to the list.
Makenzie has led the Lumberjacks to a 17-0 record and the sectional quarterfinals, during the time of her selection. The University of Pittsburgh commit is posting a 0.06 ERA, allowing just 21 hits and seven walk. Offensively, Stiles is batting .433 with 26 RBI through 17 games.
The award recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field. Stiles is now a finalist for the prestigious Gatorade National Softball Player of the Year award, which will be announced in June.
