Ms. Perfect, Makenzie Stiles Continues To Lead Perfect TeamPosted: Updated:
Deposit, N.Y. - Deposit softball has become a powerhouse over the last four years, winning three of the last four Class D state championship titles. From 2015-2017 the Lumberjacks sat at the top of Class D, winning three consecutive state titles. Here in 2019 and Deposit is well on their way to another state title, with a perfect 18-0 record, which ranks them number one in Class D throughout New York.
A common denominator is senior pitcher Makenzie Stiles. Stiles has been almost flawless all season long.
"She hasn't changed since she was a 7th grader grader pitching for us" said Deposit softball coach Dan Briggs. "Her mentality, everything about her has stayed the same. Her work ethic is second to none and that's really what's driven her to the point where she's at right now. It's unbelievable."
Makenzie has tossed six perfect games this season, extending her New York State record to 15. Stiles has tossed 104 innings, posting a 0.07 ERA with 243 strikes.
"I don't realize I'm throwing a perfect game until like the sixth inning" said Stiles. "I don't pay a lot of attention to that. I have to focus batter by batter. I can't look ahead in the game. I have to go inning by inning."
