UHS Wilson Begins Picciano Building Demolition

Posted: Updated:
JOHNSON CITY, N.Y. -

Seventy-five percent of the Picciano building at Wilson Medical Center will be demolished to begin construction on the Gateway building, creating a new spaces for administrative offices, dining services, meeting rooms, and more. The remaining 25 percent of the building will be stabilized and renovated.

The demolition will last until June, and the entire project should be finished in the fall.

Demoliton begins almost four years after the collapse of the parking deck on the Picciano building's north end. The building has now been vacated since July 2016.

"We haven't had a full service dietary department since we vacated the building," said UHS Vice President of Operations Gail Thalacker. "Our patients are our number one priority and it will be nice to be able to provide better dining and cafeteria spaces for our staff and our patients."
