VESTAL, N.Y. -

Vestal Central Schools has closed Tioga Hills Elementary students for the day as a result of the investigation into a deadly home invasion on nearby Dorothy Road, where one suspect remains at large.

A district spokesperson released the announcement at 7:36 a.m. Spokesperson Regina Felice said the district was notified Thursday morning of an active police investigation in the Tioga Terrace community.

Felice said all other schools remain open but outside activities such as physical education and recess have been canceled. Students at the high school must remain in the building during lunch. The district made provisions for students to buy lunch in the cafeteria.

Union-Endicott School District put into place a district-wide lockout, as well.
