Local Fire Companies Looking for Volunteers

Posted: Updated:
BROOME COUNTY, N.Y. -

Volunteer fire companies all over New York are hosting open houses this weekend for the ninth annual Recruit NY campaign.

Almost 600 fire stations statewide will open their doors to people interested in learning about becoming a volunteer firefighter. Assistant Chief at the West Corners Fire District Station #1 Marc Loveland says there are plenty of opportunities within these companies to get involved with if someone does not want to run in to a burning building.

"There's a big need to keep the rank and file full as people get older and retire from the volunteer fire service," said Loveland. "There are many other opportunities to participate in at the fire house. Driving, pumping, EMS, fire police, and more."
