Bearcats Swimming & Diving Coach Accepts Head Coaching Position At Youngstown StatePosted: Updated:
Vestal, N.Y. - Brad Smith, who has been the head swimming and diving coach the past five years, has accepted a similar position at Youngstown State. A national search for his replacement will begin immediately.
Smith was hired as the Bearcats' head coach in July 2014. Since then, he has steered the program to success both in and out of the pool.
The men's team has been the runner up at the America East Championships the past two seasons. In the three prior season – when the conference did not sponsor men's swimming – Smith steered the Bearcats to fourth-place finishes at the ECAC Championships.
During that same stretch, the women's team has posted five individual conference champions and one relay champion. The past season, Binghamton went 7-1 in dual meets.
"I want to thank Binghamton University for giving me the opportunity to be its head swimming & diving coach these past five years," Smith said. "It has been very rewarding to coach the student-athletes that I have and to watch the program grow like it has. I wish the university all the best going forward into the future."
"We want to thank Brad for his outstanding service and dedication to our student-athletes and athletic department here at Binghamton University," Athletic Director Patrick Elliott said. "We wish him the best in his new position at Youngstown State."
