Syracuse Basketball Earns No. 8 Seed In West Region Of 2019 NCAA TournamentPosted: Updated:
Syracuse, N.Y. - The Syracuse men's basketball team are headed to the Big Dance again as Jim Boeheim's team has earned a No. 8 seed in the 2019 NCAA Tournament. For the first time since 2010, Syracuse have been put in the West Region and will take on No. 9 seed Baylor in the first round in Salt Lake City.
"Not as much anxiety this year as the last few years, so that's always a good thing" said Jim Boeheim. "We figured we would be out best and that's how it turned out."
Syracuse's tournament fate was announced on the NCAA Tournament Selection Show on Sunday. The No. 8 seed is the best seed they've earned since 2015, when they received a No. 3 seed.
The game will be played in Salt Lake City, Utah on Thursday and the winner of that game will move on to take on the winner of No. 1 seed Gonzaga vs No. 16 seed Fairleigh Dickinson.
This marks Boeheim’s 34th NCAA Tournament appearance in his 43-year head coaching tenure at Syracuse. He’s led the Orange to five Final Four appearances and 19 Sweet 16 runs.
Boeheim also expressed that Tyus Battle was back to almost 100 percent at practice today.
