DRYDEN, N.Y. -

New York State Police have arrested an Ithaca man Wednesday who on Tuesday was accused of firing a shot in a Dryden home before evading police

Police say 32-year-old Eric J. McLaurin surrendered himself in Town of Dryden court. Authorities charged McLaurin with criminal possession of a weapon. He was sent to Tompkins County Jail on $6,000 cash bail or $12,000 bond.

Police say troopers responded to a residence in the 1100 block of State Route 366  at 2:41 p.m.

Police had warned the public that if they saw McLaurin to not approach him.

Authorities say a woman and child were home at the time of the call but left before troopers arrived.

Police closed a portion of the road between Turkey Hill and Baker Hill Roads as they tried to make contact with McLaurin.

After several attempts, police called in a special operations team to enter the home who found McLaurin was not in the residence.

Authorities say more charges are likely as the investigation continues.
