Firefighters Knock Down House Fire On Powderhouse Road

Posted: Updated:

UPDATE - MARCH 12, 2019

Broome County Fire Investigator have determined the cause of the fire at 496 Powderhouse Road on Monday to be reckless smoking.

Investigators said the second floor sustained fire damage with some water damage to the first floor.

Fire and emergency crews responded to a house fire at 496 Powderhouse road in the town of Vestal. First Assistant Chief Douglas Rose says the call came in around 1:42pm on Monday. When his crews arrived on scene, a 2nd floor bedroom was full of flames.

All occupants of the home got out safely. A neighbor says this is her cousin's house and that they heard the smoke alarm go off in their upstairs hallway. She explains the door to the bedroom was closed, so by the time the smoke leaked out around the door and reached the smoke detector, there were already flames in the room.

The fire was contained to the bedroom and the scene was cleared within an hour.

Broome County Fire Investigators are currently looking into the cause of the fire.
