Johnson City Ends Season in Last Minute Loss to Poughkeepsie
The Johnson City Wildcats fell to Class A's fourth ranked Poughkeepsie Pioneers 76-71, ending their season. The Wildcats fell to Poughkeepsie during the 2017 regional game as well.
Johnson City was off to a hot start against the No. 4 Pioneers, leading them 24-12 early in the second quarter. Jakire Hillard received a technical foul late in the second quarter after a confrontation. After that, Johnson City's momentum began to slow down. The Wildcats were able to keep it tied with 1:10 left to play, but a series of free throws put the Pioneers on top.
Junior Xavier Hill led the way for the Wildcats, scoring a game high 31 points. Senior Keith Harris netted 20 for Johnson City.
"I couldn't be more proud of their effort today," said head coach Bill Spalik. "I thought they represented themselves well, their families well, and Section IV well."
