Bearcats Travel To Rivalry University Of Albany Looking For Revenge In The PostseasonPosted: Updated:
Vestal, N.Y. - It's officially a new season for Binghamton University women's basketball and now they can head into the postseason with a clean slate. The Bearcats shut the door on their regular season on Saturday after being dealt a 67-60 loss to the University of Maine. Although the regular season is well in the rear view mirror, their post season brings extremely familiar faces, better known as a good old rivalry.
The Bearcats (No. 5) will make their 18th appearance in the America East Tournament on Wednesday when they travel to the University of Albany (No. 4) to take on the Great Danes.
"It's hard to beat a team three times" said first year head coach, Bethann Shapiro Ord. "It's a rival team, I'm excited for them. I wish I could get out there and play that's all I can say."
In America East Tournament games, Albany is 4-0 all-time against Binghamton. The Great Danes were triumphant in the 2008 and 2014 quarterfinals as well as the 2012 and 2016 semifinals.
During the 2018-19 regular season Albany gave Binghamton a sour taste in their mouth after defeating the Bearcats 61-56 on January 2 and 71-62 on February 2. However, the two teams have a track record that certainly goes way back. A record that shows that Binghamton hasn't grabbed a victory over Albany since the 2010-11 season.
"It's personal for us" said junior guard, Kai Moon. " We're incredibly excited to play Albany. We've never beat them. That's always in the back of our mind. Last time we played them we felt that one got away. This is a chance to get revenge, it's all we've been thinking about."
