Sessoms Surpasses Binghamton University Record With Seventh Weekly HonorPosted: Updated:
Vestal, N.Y. - Binghamton University's freshman guard Sam Sessoms continues to put up record breaking numbers. After another phenomenal week, the freshman has been named the America East Rookie of the Week for the seventh time this season. Sessoms seventh rookie of the week award is the most by any player in the league and the most of any Binghamton basketball player in program history.
In the 40-year history of the America East, only two players have earned more in-season honors (Boston University's Tunji Awojobi, 10 and Stony Brook's Jameel Warney, 8).
Sessoms put up record-tying numbers on Wednesday night against Hartford when the Philadelphia native scored 34 points to the for the most points in a game. Along the way, he drained eight 3-pointers, tying the BU-best mark.
In the two games, Sessoms averaged 23.5 points, 5.5 assists and shot 53 percent from the floor.
He ranks third in the America East in scoring, fourth in assists and seventh in field goal percentage and remains No. 5 in the entire nation in freshman scoring.
The Bearcats host Albany at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the team's regular season final
