JOHNSON CITY, N.Y. -

Wegmans corporation, customers, and employees raised a total donation of over $76,000 for the United Way of Broome County. That check was handed over on Monday at the store's Johnson City location.

The United Way says that money will stay local and fund projects here in the community.

"So in the past year we've had the opportunity to fund 57 programs and projects throughout Broome County and the donation from Wegmans, their employee campaign, goes directly into those programs and projects," says Jacqueline Gerchman, Executive Director of the United Way of Broome County.

In return, United Way presented Wegmans with the "Watson Award." Wegmans, as an organization, is a member of the Thomas J Watson Society, donating more than $10,000 in combined employee and corporate giving.
