Elementary Students Make Valentines For Veterans

CHENANGO FORKS, N.Y. -

Veterans will be getting a surprise this Valentine's Day. Chenango Forks Elementary School students made around 800 Valentine's Day cards to be delivered to veterans at the Oxford Veterans Home.

"All of these great students here that we're so proud of, they were so proud to make something for veterans and that they care about them and thank them for all their service," says Hannah Elwyn, Dean of Students.

This project was part of Congressman Anthony Brindisi's Valentines For Vets program. Brindisi couldn't attend Friday's assembly, but he did send the students a video message thanking them and a few veterans were there in person to let the students know how much this simple act means to the people receiving those cards.

"The veterans in Oxford that are going to get these valentines are going to be just elated and so happy. It's going to brighten so many days. It was such a wonderful thing that they did," says Jonathan Wanglund, a veteran of the airforce.

Brindisi's office is encouraging community members to get involved in the campaign. Handmade cards can be dropped off at either of his district offices. The addresses are below.
