Local restaurants compete in Soup'er Bowl Cook-off

Posted: Updated:

Several local restaurants participated in a little friendly competition while also supporting a good cause in Vestal Thursday.

Mom's House hosted a Soup'er Bowl Cook-off at Our Lady of Sorrows Cafe where people can sample soups, bakery bread, and homemade desserts made from restaurants in the area.

“We have local restaurants come out and other individuals, and they all create their own unique, individual soups and everyone gets to try them and we vote on the best soup of the evening,” said Kari Hernandez-Proppe, Executive Director of Mom's House.

Some restaurants that participated include Alexander's Cafe, American Dining, Church of the Holy Family, Close Quarters, Irish Kevin, Down to Earth Whole Foods, The Colonial, and Dos Rios Cantina.

And taking home the title of best soup was Irish Kevin's Italian Wedding Soup.

Tickets cost $10 for adults and $7 for children ages 5 to 12. Kids under the age of 5 were free.

Mom's house is a non-profit New York State licensed child care center that provides free child care for children of low-income single parents who are enrolled in school full-time.
