Bri:

Some people want to retire early but worry about sacrificing too much to get there.
Greg Lesko of Lesko Financial has some advice.
Greg…

Greg:

Thanks, Bri.
Some millennials seem determined to retire early or at least become financially independent.
Whether you’re in that category, or closer to retirement age, making saving a priority over spending is a must.
But what stops some workers from going full speed ahead is the feeling they can’t enjoy life along the way.
Having to give up that cappuccino or cut premium cable just so you can lie on a beach someday may seem like too much of hardship.
But it doesn’t have to be.
With planning and money management you can get to your goals and still experience life’s little joys.
What it takes is being deliberate

Bri:

Well,  how can someone do that?

Greg:

It helps to get clear on what your vision is.
What does financial independence represent to you? that will differ for each person, but it’s important to come up with a concrete notion that will motivate you to work and save.
Next, create a money “mission statement” to align your spending with that vision.
Also, identify your personal spending triggers and work to avoid them, reminding yourself of your vision in order to stay motivated.

Bri:

Any other helpful tips?

Greg:

Yes, decide to reward yourself with an occasional luxury that won’t break the budget and will help you avoid feeling deprived.
Maybe it is that cappuccino.
Plan to spend more time enjoying activities that don’t cost a lot.
And finally, make sure you’re on the same page with your spouse or life partner and remind each other what you’re working toward.

Bri:

All very helpful.. Thanks Greg.. .. And that's Greg Lesko with Lesko Financial.
