BROOME COUNTY, N.Y. -

Broome County Executive Jason Garner announced the appointment of Roger Luther as Broome County Historian on Wednesday.

"Jerry Smith held this job for many years, and he did an excellent job at it. It's going to be hard to fill his shoes.  You know I'm really honored and actually humbled to be a part of that team of people, and hope to carry on the work that they started," said Luther

Roger Luther, a familiar face as Fox 40's 100 Years Ago Today Historian, has accepted the position of Broome County Historian. Luther's first day on the job is Monday. Luther fills this position after the retirement of former Broome County Historian Gerald Smith.

Luther has conducted years of research on topics involving Broome county, including buildings and residences in the county.

Luther says he'll continue to lead the Preservation Association of the Southern Tier (PAST). His predecessor Gerry Smith retired from the County Historian role at the end of January.
