12 Innovative and Delightful Designs Compete for Your Vote

Kikkerland Design and UncommonGoods Partner with Pratt Institute Design Students for a Product Design Challenge "Inspired by Nature: Gifts for Health and Wellness"
NEW YORK, Jan. 9, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Maker of quirky product inventions, Kikkerland Design, was approached by Constantin Boym, Chair of Industrial Design at Pratt Institute, to host a product design challenge for their undergraduate and postgraduate students. Kikkerland Design invited UncommonGoods, a catalog of cool and unusual gifts, to partner with them in judging the students' work and to help determine each product's place in the retail market. Using both Kikkerland Design and Uncommon Goods product guidelines, together they set a trending theme for the students to explore: Health and Well-Being Inspired by Nature.
Tenured Professor, Ignacio Urbino Polo lead the students in this real world product development exercise that went from product ideation, to research and design development. Twelve proposals were developed under the central wellness theme. Development experts of both Kikkerland Design and Uncommon Goods guided the process, assisting the students in brainstorming possible design solutions in order for them to complete their final
To give you an idea of some of the proposed designs: there is a Gratitude Tree that reminds you of the many things in life you are thankful for, two different lights that help slow your breathing, and a travel water bottle with a built-in water quality tester.
By the end of this Design Challenge there will be two winning designs: an academic design chosen by UncommonGoods' Senior Product Development Team, and an online, open-to-the-public, popular vote winner. The public voting will begin on January 8, 2019 on the website http://www.uncommongoodsdesignchallenge.com/ where anyone is invited to vote for their personal favorite design through February 2, 2019.

Winners will be announced on February 3rd, 2019, at the Kikkerland Design Store on 493 Sixth Avenue in New York, during an exhibit of all the students' design work. Representatives of UncommonGoods, Kikkerland, and Pratt Institute will be there, as well as the participating students. Kikkerland Design will bring the winning designs to production in the coming year.
This is Kikkerland Design's 12th Annual Design Challenge. The goal of these Challenges is to introduce young designers to the real-life experience of bringing well designed products
