David Wright To Become Mets Special Adviser

New York - Former New York Mets Captain David Wright is becoming a special adviser to chief operating officer Jeff Wilpon and general manager Brodie Van Wagenen, the Mets announced today.

Wright will serve as a special assistant to new general manager Brodie Van Wagenen and team COO Jeff Wilpon. It will not be a full-time role. The Mets and Wright have also agreed to his release from the 40-man roster after the team reached an agreement with the insurance company regarding Wright's contract. 

Wright released a statement on twitter stating: "I again want to thank the Wilpon and Katz families for everything they have done for myself and my family. I will always be tremendously grateful for the way the fans treated me because playing in this city and for this team was a dream come true. I look forward to contributing adn taking on the challenges of this new role."

The Mets and Wright have also agreed to his release from the 40-man roster after the team reached an agreement with the insurance company regarding Wright's contract.
