Binghamton Swim And Dive Teams Sweep Fall SeasonPosted: Updated:
The Binghamton University men's and women's swimming and diving teams made history this fall by going undefeated in the first half of the schedule in the program's 17-year Division I tenure. Collectively, the teams won seven meets in the fall - the women's team with four wins and the men with three.
Head coach Brad Smith attributes much of that success to hard work in the off season, a spark from last season's conference championship, and the leadership of his captains.
Each one of our captains brings different unique qualities that impact the program positively,” said Smith. “When they’re all together, that’s when they’re at their best and that’s when the team is at its best.”
Captains Brooke Pettis and Max Willard selflessly help lead the team, often going out of their way to help motivate the rest of the team.
“All of us captains work so well together," said Pettis. “What we hope to do is move the team in a positive forward direction and if that means taking time out of our own lives to make sure that gets done, we make sure that gets done."
“The way I’ve approached this season is doing my best to make people around me better," said Willard. “As long as I do my best to make the guys on the left and right of me in the lanes better, I’ll be getting better."
The swim and dive teams will ring in the new year with a training trip in Florida before heading to Poughkeepsie to kick off their winter season against Marist.
