Binghamton Basketball Hosts Double Header, Falls Short In Both GamesPosted: Updated:
The Binghamton basketball teams hosted Rider and Loyola in their second double header of the season Saturday at the Events Center. In both games, the Bearcats fell short, as the women lost to the Broncs 62-57 and the men to the Greyhounds 83-65.
It all started off with the women, who led Rider for the first half of the game, but after a half court shot by the Broncs, their momentum faded away. Rebecca Carmody went down late in the game, and was unable to return due to an unspecified injury. The Bearcats recorded a season-high of 28 turnovers, which gave the Broncs 21 points. Sophomore guard Lizzy Spindler netted a career high of 17 points, making five of seven three point shots.
As for the men, Loyola ran away with the game early on. The Greyhounds led by as many as 12 before halftime. Sam Sessoms netted a game high of 20 points, his tenth straight game scoring double digits. Sessoms is ranked eighth among freshman scorers in the NCAA.
Both teams are off for finals, but return next weekend to action. The men host Youngstown State on Saturday and the women travel to play No. 2 Notre Dame and No. 18 Marquette as their final match ups before league play begins.
