Maerkl Signs NLI To Play Basketball At Daemen CollegePosted: Updated:
Binghamton, N.Y. - On Thursday afternoon, Seton Catholic Central Senior Marina Maerkl signed her National Letter of Intent to play Division II basketball at Daemen College on a full scholarship. Daemen College is located in Amherst, New York and competes in the East Coast Conference.
Maerkl's decision was influenced highly by Wildcats head coach Jenepher Banker's passion and confidence in Maerkl's style of play.
"Coach Baker felt very passionate about the way I played. She basically told me that I was her number one recruit and that she wanted me and would give anything for me to come here" said Marina.
"It's more excitement than pressure. I'm just kind of like, wow.... I appreciate it a lot."
The forward enters her final year with the Saints, coming off a season where she scored 295 points and collected 158 rebounds. She was also apart of the 2017 Seton Catholic Central Championship team.
"The decision to come here was 50/50. I knew I wanted to go into physical therapy and after I got offered there and knew they were such a good physical therapy school, I knew I needed to go there."
