Binghamton, N.Y. Although the NFL's pre-season is in full effect, high school football's pre-season isn't until Monday, August 13.
On Tuesday, the New York State Public High School Athletic Association announced earlier today that they have partnered up with the New York Schools Insurance Reciprocal. As part of the partnership NYSIR is covering the costs for up to six football coaches, per school, to complete online and in-person training offered by USA Football in the Heads Up Football program.
The course is made up of four major parts, consisting of, concussion recognition and response, heat preparedness and hydration, sudden cardiac arrest, proper equipment fitting along with shoulder tackling and blocking. There is also an in-person session, organized by the sections in conjunction with USA Football, that a minimum of one coach per school must attend.
Section IV Football's regular season starts on Friday, August 31.
